Apple Pay launches with MasterCard Singapore

MasterCard Singapore cardholders can now use Apple Pay for easy, secure payments using a smart device.

MasterCard has been working with such banks as DBS, OCBC, POSB, Standard Chartered and UOB to enable their customers to use their MasterCard credit or debit cards with Apple Pay.

Apple users in Singapore can now use smartphone or Apple Watch to make purchases in stores equipped with contactless readers. They just tap their phone to the reader and use a thumbprint or passcode for verification, or simply hold their Apple Watch to the card reader.

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. Credit or debit card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. A separate token is assigned to each Apple device. Apple Pay has extra security features such as Touch ID to authorise payments.

Consumers in Singapore are among Asia’s top three adopters of digital wallets, says MasterCard Singapore group head and GM Deborah Heng.

For consumers and retailers alike, every purchase via MasterCard using Apple Pay offers all the benefits and guarantees of a transaction with the physical card – points, cashback and insurance protection.

Using the MasterCard Nearby app, cardholders can identify retailers that accept contactless payments. The card has a contactless global footprint of 5 million terminals in 77 countries.
