‘Twinning’ fashion trend takes hold

They call it “Twinning” – clothing for mums and daughters in matching style for mum & daughter occasions.

The twinning fashion trend is taking off in the US at least one apparel retailer – the online Pineapple Clothing company, based in Miami- is headlining its fall collection with mommy and me matching outfits.

The trend has its own hashtag (#twinning) and appears to be a derivation of the trend in Asia of couples wearing matching t–shirts to show solidarity.

Founder and CEO, Ukranian designer Ivanna Griner, says the range brings “a stylish new way for mothers and daughters to be part of the ‘twinning’ trend that has taken over social media”.

Griner’s inspiration for the matching apparel was a personal one, fuelled by her own personal admiration for “the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter”.

“There’s nothing like the connection a mother and daughter share; this line is inspired by that bond and meant to strengthen it. Mommy and me moments are shopping trips together, going to the movies or the park together, mother and daughter yoga classes or dance classes, things like that. Pineapple is about dressing those moments.”

Women and girls can find matching or individual dresses, skirts, pants, tops for any occasion and even mommy and me matching yoga leggings and activewear for morning workouts or weekend mommy and me yoga classes. Sizes range between 18 month to 16 years in girls, and XS to 4XL in women, which allows all ages and sizes to find well-fitted individual or matching clothing, something that can often be challenging to the plus-size shopper, especially when trying to find beautiful, stylish and printed garments.

Griner first launched her startup just a year ago and broke even after just a few months.

The brand has achieved a growing loyal fanbase, spurred by Pineapple’s social media success: the Facebook page has amassed 28,700 organic followers and her Instagram page already has  11,200 followers.
