Walt Disney and VivoCity join in mid-Autumn Festival installation
Walt Disney and VivoCity are presenting a giant “Tsum Tsum” lantern installation to mark the mid-autumn festival this month at VivoCity Sky Park.
The visual spectacle features more than 2000 Tsum Tsum-themed lanterns and is thought to be one of Asia’s largest lantern installations this year.
Amit Malhotra, country manager for The Walt Disney Company Singapore and Malaysia, said storytelling is at the heart of Disney and the company aims to bring beloved characters and stories to life in new, fun and magical ways. “This mid-autumn campaign featuring adorable Disney and Disney-Pixar Tsum Tsum looks to engage fans of all ages in a locally relevant and fun manner, providing more ways for people to celebrate the festive season with their favourite Disney character,” she said.
Derived from the Japanese term meaning “to stack”, Disney Tsum Tsum is best loved for its range of collectible stuffed toys and mobile game, and based upon characters from Disney.
Gwen Au, VP for marketing & communications at Mapletree Commercial Property Management said: “Mid-autumn festival celebrations have long been a tradition at VivoCity, where we hold a large-scale mid-autumn and mooncake fair in our atrium each year. This year, it has been made extra-special with these lovable Disney Tsum Tsum lanterns lighting up our night sky. Visitors will also have a chance to bring some of these cute stackables home from the special Tsum Tsum pop-up fair that’s happening at our East Court, located on Level 1 of the mall.”
The Walt Disney and VivoCity event showcases Tsum Tsum-themed lantern installations in four different zones, conceptualised to reflect the different forms and expressions of love. It includes a fairytale garden, a tunnel of love, and a wishing wonderland, as well as a 10m-tall statue made out of 1500 lanterns that celebrates 90 years of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The installation holds a new record in the Asia Book of Records as the largest lantern sculpture.
Shoppers can look forward to the launch of limited-edition Disney Tsum Tsum mid-autumn-themed EZ-link cards, redeemable with a minimum purchase of $250 in the mall (subject to terms and conditions). VivoCity will launch a different design each week with a total of four to complete the collection.
