Punggol Town Hub plans revealed
Initial plans have been revealed for a Punggol Town Hub featuring a hawker centre, library and community facilities.
Residents of the suburb were treated to a preview yesterday at the Punggol Town Square where preliminary plans went on display along with artist’s perspectives of what the centre will look like when complete. Research is now under way to determine residents’ preferences for services at the centre before the plans are finalised. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the development in conjunction with a Children’s’ Day Carnival.
Initial plans for the 24,300sqm hub to be located next to the sports centre show dedicated spaces for a childcare facility and health services.
The integrated hub will be managed by the People’s Association.
Dr Janil Puthucheary, an adviser to Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Grassroots Organisation, said the development is planned as a source of strength and cohesion for the neighbourhood.
“The grassroots volunteers worked with the multiple government agencies for this town hub, which will also be an opportunity for the co-locating partners to have access to different types of facilities and work together on integrated programmes to better engage residents. Together, we can make Punggol a better home,” said Puthucheary.
